The Third Trimester

You're almost at the finish line, and your delivery date is approaching quickly. As you prepare for your baby's arrival, there are a few key things to finalize, including your birth plan, choice of pediatrician, and packing your hospital bag.

Amidst all the planning, it's important to take a moment to enjoy the wonders of your pregnancy and the amazing changes happening in your body.

As a refresher, we recommend reviewing the notes from your childbirth classes to ensure you feel well-prepared for the big moment.

Have a Celebration

If you're planning on having a baby shower, now is a great time to do so. Waiting too long can mean you might not feel your best or have as much energy to enjoy the celebration. Instead, why not celebrate when you're feeling your best and have the energy to be fully present in the moment?

Finalize your Birth Plan

If you haven't already done so, it's important to complete your birth plan and provide copies to all relevant parties. This will help ensure that your healthcare team is aware of your preferences and can work with you to create the birth experience you desire.

Choose a Pediatrician

Just as you carefully selected your obstetric care provider, we recommend taking the time to choose the right pediatrician for your new arrival. Many pediatricians offer introductory sessions for prospective patients, so you can ask questions and ensure they're the right fit for your family.

Self Care

"This is a great time to take care of yourself before your baby arrives. Once your little one is here, there will likely be lots of chaos and little time for self-care. Consider asking for help with your other children (if you have any), letting family and friends cook and clean to help conserve your energy.

Don't be afraid to indulge yourself during this time. Schedule a pregnancy massage, treat yourself to a pedicure with chemical-free polish, or simply enjoy a quiet afternoon and read a good book. This is the perfect time to prioritize your own needs and wellbeing.

You Will Need a Car Seat

Ensure that your car seat is correctly installed before your due date, but don't bring it to the hospital. You'll need it to transport your little one home safely, so it's important to have it ready to go when the time comes.

Pack Your Hospital Bag

It is important to prepare a bag with all the necessary items you will need during your hospital stay. This bag should be packed in advance to ensure that you have everything you need when the time comes.

  • Insurance information and ID

  • Birth plan

  • Comfortable clothing, including a nursing bra and underwear.

  • Non-slip socks or slippers

  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, etc.)

  • Hair ties, headbands and/or bonnet

  • Snacks and drinks for during labor

  • Phone charger and/or camera

  • Entertainment (books, magazines, music, etc.)

  • Nursing pads and nipple cream

  • Maternity pads and underwear

  • Going-home outfit for mom and baby

  • It's also a good idea to check with your healthcare provider or hospital to see if they have any specific recommendations or requirements for items to bring.

Note: It's also a good idea to pack a few things for your partner to ensure their comfort during your hospital stay. Some suggestions include a toothbrush, comfortable slippers, and a sweatshirt or sweater (hospitals are known to be chilly!)
