Main Character Motherhood: Preparing Mom. Mobilizing the Squad

Motherhood changes everything, and moms should not have to figure it all out alone.

This workshop creates space for expectant and new moms to talk honestly about the identity shift that comes with becoming a mother, how stress can show up, and how to recognize the early signs that more support may be needed. Together, we will explore what it means to protect mom’s well-being before she reaches a breaking point.

We will also make space for the village: partners, family, friends, and loved ones who want to help but may not know what to do. This conversation will move beyond “let me know if you need anything” and offer practical, respectful ways to show up with care, consistency, and real support.

Participants will leave with a simple Village Blueprint, a tool to help moms name their early warning signs, identify the kinds of support that feel most helpful, and invite their village to commit to concrete ways they can show up before being asked.

From Stress to Safety: Finding Calm in the Midst of Challenges

What if one of the greatest gifts you could give your baby is your own emotional well-being?

Long before children understand our words, they respond to our presence. They learn from how we navigate challenges, manage stress, seek support, and care for ourselves. Yet many of us enter our pregnancy and motherhood carrying stress, worry, and responsibilities that leave little room to pause, rest, and recharge.

In this engaging and empowering conversation, Dr. Trinisia Brooks will explore how stress can affect both mothers and babies, why having trusted sources of support matters, and how creating moments of safety and connection can strengthen the well-being of the entire family.

Drawing from a healing-centered perspective, Dr. Brooks will help participants recognize the signs of stress, understand the importance of building a strong support network, and discover practical strategies for finding calm during life's most demanding seasons.

Whether you are expecting your first child, navigating early motherhood, supporting a loved one, or serving families professionally, this session will offer encouragement, practical tools, and a fresh perspective on the powerful connection between a mother's well-being and a child's healthy development.

When mothers feel safe, supported, and connected, families are better positioned to thrive.

Held: Reclaiming Rest, Joy & Community in Motherhood

Welcoming new life or navigating postpartum? Find space to pause, breathe, and reclaim yourself through community and rest.

Motherhood is one of life’s most sacred transformations. It can bring immeasurable joy, deep love, unexpected challenges, and profound change—all at the same time.

Yet too many Black mothers are expected to navigate this journey while carrying the weight of caregiving, work, family responsibilities, and the lingering effects of stress, isolation, and inequity.

Held is an African-centered sister circle created to remind Black women that we were never meant to mother alone.

Whether you are preparing to welcome new life, healing after birth, navigating the postpartum period, or simply longing to reconnect with yourself, this gathering offers space to pause, breathe, and be cared for. Together, we will explore how rest, joy, community, and collective care are not luxuries—they are essential to our health, our healing, and our ability to thrive.

Guided by Dr. Teah M. Johnson, this experience weaves together maternal mental wellness, holistic health, ancestral wisdom, reflection, and meaningful connection to support mothers in reclaiming/rememberingthemselves while embracing the beautiful journey of becoming.

We’ll talk about how fathers can take part in the wonder of birth, build strong early bonds with their babies, and contribute to healthier outcomes for the whole family.

This conversation will also highlight tangible ways fathers and partners can be engaged, from learning key risk factors and warning signs to helping monitor blood pressure, asking thoughtful questions, attending appointments, and understanding when to speak up or seek support.

Through 4Kira4Dads, fathers are invited to see themselves as essential members of the birth team, helping ensure that mamas feel seen, heard, and supported every step of the way.
