Our Why
At Birthing the Magic Collaborative (BTM), we are filling a long-overlooked gap in maternal care, one that continues to put Black women at risk.
For generations, Black birthing people have reported being mistreated or dismissed in medical settings, their concerns ignored, their voices silenced. These experiences are not isolated—they are rooted in historical inequities that continue to shape devastating outcomes. Today, Black women are three times more likely to die from childbirth-related causes than white women, and more likely to experience pregnancy complications that could be prevented.
This is where we step in.
BTM exists to bridge the educational and communication divide between Black birthing people and the healthcare system. Culturally relevant, science-backed information is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.
When Black birthing people are equipped with knowledge and support, they are empowered to advocate for themselves and their families.
We offer free, live, and recorded workshops designed specifically for Black birthing people and those who care for them. From pregnancy through postpartum and parenting, we provide trusted resources, practical tools, and a supportive community. Our work is rooted in dignity, cultural safety, and joy.
Perinatal education improves health outcomes—but many Black families still lack access to classes that reflect their realities. Cost, cultural disconnect, and rigid scheduling make traditional options inaccessible.
At BTM, we remove those barriers. Our workshops are free, flexibly scheduled, and led by Black experts committed to culturally safe, affirming care.
Our commitment is twofold: to ensure Black birthing people are educated and empowered, and to help reimagine a maternal care system that honors their lives, their choices, and their full humanity.
We’re not just here to improve outcomes.
We’re here to help Black mamas and their families thrive.
Our goal is to provide transformative support and innovative, empowering solutions.
Through accessible, culturally relevant education, we’re building a community where Black birthing people can thrive while actively addressing the root causes of poor maternal and infant health outcomes.
