Dr. Valencia P. Walker, MD, MPH, is Vice Dean for Community Engagement and College Culture at Geisinger College of Health Sciences and a practicing neonatologist committed to improving outcomes for pregnant people and their infants.
She is co-founder of the Birthing the Magic Collaborative, advancing culturally grounded education and support so Black birthing people can navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with knowledge and confidence.
A physician leader within organized medicine, Dr. Walker is an Executive Committee member for the AAP’s Section on Minority Health Equity and Inclusion, in addition to her position as Program Chair for the Section. She is a newly elected Administrative Board Member for the AAMC’s Council on Faculty and Academic Societies after transitioning out of her role as the Central Region Representative for the AAMC’s Group on Diversity and Inclusion. Previously, she served as president for the Association of Black Women Physicians, a nonprofit organization dedicated to diversifying the physician workforce, advocating for under-resourced communities and promoting health equity.
Dr. Walker completed her undergraduate studies at Florida A&M University. She received her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine then finished her Pediatrics residency at UT Memphis and her Neonatology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She also holds a MPH in Health Policy from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
