Maternal Health & Maternal Mental Health Programs
There are are a number of programs (many have a national scope) that offer programs and services to address the needs of new and expectant mothers. While Birthing the Magic does not have a direct affiliation with these programs, we are pleased to share links and/or information about their work.
Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health
The Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) is a national data-driven maternal safety and quality improvement initiative based on proven implementation approaches to improving maternal safety and outcomes in the U.S. AIM works through state teams and health systems to align national, state, and hospital level quality improvement efforts to improve overall maternal health outcomes. Any U.S. hospital in a participating AIM state or hospital system can join the AIM community. AIM’s strategies include patient safety bundles and tools.
Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project
Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project works to remove barriers, biases, and disparate practices that impede access to equitable, quality care for Black women and women of color.
Their mission is to increase awareness of the Black maternal health crisis and develop and promote evidence-based strategies that improve health outcomes for Black birthing people and families.
Black Mamas Matter Alliance is a Black women-led cross-sectoral alliance that centers Black mamas to advocate, drive research, build power, and shift culture for Black maternal health, rights, and justice. BMMA provides technical assistance, trainings, and capacity building for grassroots organizations, maternity care service providers (e.g., clinicians, midwives, doula networks and community health workers), academia, and the public health industry.
Shades of Blue Maternal Mental Health
The Shades of Blue Project is a Houston-based Non-Profit organization. With its continued focus on improving, Maternal Mental Health outcomes for black and brown birthing people, The Shades of Blue Project will be opening a new Maternal and Mental Health Resource Center located in the North Houston area of the city. The center will offer social support services, job placement skills, onsite therapy sessions, support groups, and many more dedicated services to benefit the community.
